Mom’s advice yesterday: Rely only on yourself.

Me: Except when you need help and you’ve got family that love you, right Mom?

I love my Mom. And sometimes…

I know I’m not alone with these love and conflicting feelings for my Mom. I’m finding it pretty universal actually. Even in the Telenovela that I’m watching to try and improve my Spanish, Raquel Rodriguez, an independent globe-trotting kind hearted lawyer has issues with her Mom. (Yes! THE Raquel Rodriguez from Destinos. I know, it isn’t 1990 anymore but I want to know what finally happens!!)

So as a Mom, myself do I get to look forward to my kids getting annoyed at me too? I think it’s only inevitable.

Back to my Mom’s advice: Rely only on yourself. I think it’s based on her tough background and working her way up in the US. Or maybe she was just having a rough day. I’ve gotten some doozie advice from her in the past. As a kid, she used to tell me to make my bed or frogs would come live in there and then impregnate me. Yup.

Today I know that I’m the person that I am in part because of my Mother. She helped me get to the point to question strange advice, even if it comes from her.

And you know who loves dancing more than I do? Mom.

Picture from when I went dancing with my Mom. In a club.

Impromptu Dancing

Trying to convince myself I’m a writer. Pure joy: impromptu family dance parties.
